This course covers broad aspects of conventional and modern cryptography, and recent applications in network security. At the beginning, we introduce some fundamental theory of cryptology and number theory. Modern public-key cryptosystem will be covered in detail. Some network security applications will be addressed later. In the following we outline topics in this course: Conventional Encryption , Rotor Machines and Breaking the Enigma, Data Encryption Standard (DES), Modular Arithmetic, Public Key Distribution Algorithm, Factoring-based Cryptosystem-RSA, Mental Poker and Oblivious Transfer, Discrete-Logarithm-based Cryptosystems-ElGamal, DSA(DSS), One-Way Hash Functions, Secret Sharing, Key Escrow, Digital Certificate and X.509, Security in Wireless Communications, Secure Electronic Transaction (SET), Secure Email-PGP Design, Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol.
